Life is Full Of Choices
Reflecting on Genesis 19
I was reading this morning in Genesis and as I read through chapter 19 I started thinking about Lot’s wife who could’ve started over with her family in a new home and city, but chose to disobey God’s instruction leading to her death.
Sodom and Gomorrah was a wicked city whose sin was flagrant so God told Abraham he was going to destroy it. God spared Lot and his family from being wiped away with Sodom and Gomorrah not because they were counted righteous but because Abraham asked him to. They were warned by Angels of the Lord to “RUN” and not look back. But Lot’s wife chose to look back as she was following him away from the city, and she turned into a pillar of salt.
WHY, right? Why didn’t she just listen. God’s Angels told her exactly what to do, but she didn’t listen.
As I think about this I see that God has given us all of the instructions we need to make the right choices that lead to living an abundant and prosperous life. He gave us The Word of God and The Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us as we walk on this earth. We literally have everything we need to make the right choices, but do we? Do I? No. I try, but I’m human, and I make mistakes. I sometimes allow myself to take control and try things my way even though I know his way is better than mine. Praise the Lord for his unfailing love and mercy.
We serve a God that could MAKE us do whatever he wanted. However, he wants us to choose him by our own free will. He wants us to love him, but he doesn’t force it. It’s crazy to think we would choose anything but him because his love for us, his children, is endless.
Living life as a Christian is HARD because this world is toxic. Sometimes we might think it would be “easier” to conform to the world, but this world is not our home. Nothing in this world is eternal. Praise the Lord that we don’t have to live in it alone. We must let the Spirit of God direct our steps.
Each morning I pray for God to help me constantly listen for his direction. I pray that he helps me do kingdom work and not my own. He wants to help us succeed. He wants the best for us just as we want for those we love. He wants us to CHOOSE him. His love is the only eternal thing!
I would love to share more with you about Him because surrendering my life to him has been the best decision I’ve ever made.
28Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gavea]”>[a] his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
16 We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.
1 John 4:16
10 Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10
4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
Ephesians 2:4-5
15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
Psalm 86:15
