Where do you go for fulfillment?

Last night I was laying in bed having a conversation with Nic, and during it I caught myself waiting for him to say, “I am proud of you”. Thankfully, before I spoke I heard God whisper instead, “I am proud of you”.

I’m definitely a words of affirmation person. I did the whole love language quiz, and there was no question. I love words of encouragement and well,  just any feedback really at all. That is what fuels me, and makes me want to keep going. However, I will say in my teens and 20s that was one thing I had all wrong. I was looking to find my worth by what others told me or by what I could accomplish. I am obviously still working on that now.

When I realized last night what I was doing it was loud and clear. When we seek to find our identity in Christ we see that only he can COMPLETELY satisfy the needs we have (2 Peter 1:3). It isn’t fair of me to depend on my husband to make me feel like I’m enough daily. That’s a lot of pressure.

When we stop looking to others to satisfy all of our needs and look to God our hearts soften and expectations lower. Expectations are something that we will dig into later because I’m also working on that this year (of myself and others).

God wants to fill our cup. He wants us to feel whole, and he is the only source that can do that.

The scriptures below reassure us that he is all we need in life.

I hope this is an encouragement to you, friend. All we can do is strive to grow each day. Thanks for joining me as I share my journey!

Warmly, Chels
